From 1/1/2007 SATA Air Azores will be taking over the route from TAP Air Portugal. SATA will be operating the route with a newer aircraft which has a larger capacity for air passengers. This means however that there are now fewer flights during the day than with TAP. Facts about Porto Santo

1. Porto Santo was inhabited before it's larger neighbour Madeira!
2. Christopher Columbus lived on the island for a while.
3. The Island boasts a 18 hole golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros

5. To reach the island from Madeira there is a daily ferry from Funchal,
which takes just over 2 hours. You can also fly to and from Madeira to
Porto Santo -  flight takes about 20 minutes. The runway at Porto Santo,
unlike at Madeira is very long and can take large commercial jet planes!
6. The sand that forms the beautiful sandy beach is said to have
therapeutic qualities - particularly for arithis.
7. The population of Porto Santo is approx 5,000 and most people
live in the main town of Vila Baleira.
